Mediterranean Diet Meal Plan

The Mediterranean Diet is a great way to spice up your weekly meal plan with a theme! The Mediterranean diet is not a diet in the way that most diets work. The Mediterranean style of eating is flavorful, fun and relatively quick and easy. Many of the meals are one pan meals which makes for easy clean up.

The Mediterranean diet is not a weight loss diet, although there are health benefits being studied. Enjoying the food we eat is important for the choices we make and there is so much to enjoy about the flavors and textures of theMediterranean food lifestyle. Based on my readings, less sweets and keeping your portions in check are important for weight loss goals. Read more about it here in the Harvard Diet Review.

Planning The Theme Week

The first thing to do for a themed week meal plan is to research the common ingredients for your theme. Look online (Pinterest is great) and download a list of spices and foods that will most likely appear in various recipes.

Next, find a few recipes for each meal and a couple of snacks. You don’t have to make them all, but having a variety to choose from is always a good idea.

For the Mediterranean themed meal plan, I learned that GARLIC is very important! Other common ingredients are roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, capers, oregano, onion, lemon, eggs and fish of your choice.

The meals we had are Mediterranean Creamy Chicken Skillet, Tuscan Salmon, Shrimp Pasta, Charcuterie boards, and of course, falafel! One week was not long enough to sample all of the recipes! Go for ten days to two weeks to get the full taste of the Mediterranean lifestyle!

I also used the Palmini noodles in place of pasta and had amazing roasted veggies for a side dish.
