Having a smart start to your morning will help you have better days. Do you find yourself rushing frantically around in the morning after whacking the snooze button one (or five) too many times? How you start your day is a decision and a very important one that sets the tone for your entire day.
Healthy morning habits are very important to practice and are seriously key to having a great day. There is no need to wait until the morning to start preparing yourself for success. Start the night before!
Greet Yourself with Gratitude!
Keeping a gratitude journal is so great for starting the day on a good note. Keep a notepad by your bed and each night jot down a few things you are grateful for from that day. Read your note when you wake up and give yourself a few minutes to smile as you practice gratitude. Start your day on a positive note
Note Good Things to Come
Did you know that hormonal shifts happen while you sleep that can cause us to wake up feeling a little blue. Check your calendar before bed and mentally note (or on a post-it – my personal favorite) make note of upcoming activities or events that you’re looking forward to. Stick your post-it to your phone or bathroom mirror so it’s one of the first things you see.
Keep a Cool Bedroom
Setting the thermostat to between 65 and 70ºF will keep your room at a temperature for the best sleep. Lower the temperature when you’re turning down the lights to cool the room overnight and wake up less groggy.
Surround Yourself with Color
When you wake up to color, you wake up with a smile. Think about how much children love balloons. They are colorful, and they make us feel joy. Add a colorful throw pillow or bright piece of art in your wake up line of sight for a burst of joy when you open your eyes.
Put Flowers by Your Bedside
A bouquet of bright blooms by the bedside will help you start your day with a mood lift and an energy boost. Make it easy on yourself with a silk arrangement!
Skip the Snooze
Snoozing sabotages your day because when you hit snooze your body is on alert for the next buzz, keeping you from the deeper, more restful stages of sleeping. Set your alarm for the time you actually need to wake up and you’ll be more rested. Check out the 5 Second Rule if you struggle with the snooze button.
Visualize Your Day
You’re awake! Close your eyes and visualize your active self moving through your day. Fire up your brain with positive thoughts to start your day alert and energized.
Drink a Big Glass of Water
Going for H2O when we wake up replenishes the fluids we we lose overnight and helps us start the day more energized. Water gets the metabolism going, hydrates you, helps the body flush out toxins, gives the brain fuel, and may even help us eat less. Drinking up first thing in the morning kicks things off with a healthy and refreshing start to your day.
