Baked Apple Dessert – Apple Pie Alternative
Anyone else have more than one holiday get together? When you live far away from your family, sometimes it means splitting or doubling up the special occasions.
We travel to quite a few family and friend events over the holidays, which mean I get to make some extra recipes! My grandmom makes THE BEST apple crisp. 🍏🍎🍏🍎 All the feels when I think about that!
For our second Thanksgiving this year, I decided to try this Apple Crumble – I’m sure it won’t be near as delicious as Grandmom’s, that’s for sure. Pretty sure I’ll be making this gain – even with just a single apple!
Apple Crumble Ingredients:
- 1 cup oats
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup melted butter or vegan butter
- 1/2 Tbsp cinnamon (or pumpkin pie spice)
- 10-12 green apples, sliced (I kept the skin on)
- Non-stick spray
Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 F and spray a baking dish with nonstick spray. I used my Pampered Chef Deep Covered Baker
- Layer the sliced apples so there are at least 3-5 layers of apple. A smaller, deeper baking dish works well.
- In a separate bowl, combine oats, butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Using a fork or your fingers, pinch and crumble the ingredients until well combined. Layer the oat mixture over the sliced apples.
- Cover and bake for 1 hour.
- You can whip up a Cinnamon Vanilla topping by combining plain nonfat Greek yogurt with vanilla extract, liquid stevia or honey, and cinnamon to taste.
Enjoy, it’s not grandmom’s – but it’s still pretty tasty!
