The detox refresh results are in!
The 3 Day Refresh is a three day detox program to give you a fast, clean break – to drop a few pounds in a hurry or break some bad eating habits. It’s easy to follow and easy to do! You eat real food with a few shakes here and there to keep your energy and metabolism going. This is the third time I have done the 3 Day Refresh and I already know I will be doing it again in July!
Here’s the lowdown on the program – food and liquids!
- Wake up: Drink 8-12 oz filtered water
- Breakfast (within an hour of waking): Shakeology and a fruit
- Mid-Morning: Fiber Sweep (digestive health drink)
- Lunch: Vanilla Fresh (high protein, hunger satisfying shake) plus fruit, vegetable (or juice option)
- Afternoon Snack: Fruit & Vegetable (or juice option)
- Dinner: Vanilla Fresh and a dinner meal from the recipe list
Here was my three day meal plan:
The surprising thing is that I wasn’t hungry during the whole thing. Well, actually I did feel hungry about about 9:30 am each day, which is my normal “snack time”. Here’s how my days went – I really only need to describe one because all three are about the same, other than a few of the food choices, which you can see by the meal plan below.
I wake up around 5:15 each day. Now, the refresh suggests light or no exercise for the three days, but I didn’t want to skip days from my program, so I did workout, but tried to take it easy. At 5:15 I had my Energize pre-workout drink with 8-10oz of filtered water (this time I bought 2 gallons of distilled water). I also filled my bottle of water and tried to drink 10 oz of water without the energize in it while I got ready for work.
Finished the workout by around 6am and then get ready for work. Prepared my chocolate Shakeology with a banana, ice and more filtered water and drank that by 7:20. I usually add peanut butter to my Shakeology, but it’s not that different without it. So, that’s a bit off from within an hour of waking up, but worked for me
There’s an option to have a cup of unsweetened herbal or green tea at least an hour after breakfast and at least an hour before the fiber sweep. This timing didn’t usually workout for me, but I did carry decaf tea bags with me in case it could have.
I tried for the Fiber Sweep by 10am. Since I was pretty hungry by then, I was actually kind of anxious to get something to “eat”. The Fiber Sweep is not my favorite! I add it to water – from the gallon of distilled I was keeping with me – and got it down in 6 big gulps!
Then, before you know it – lunch time! The Vanilla Fresh protein shake is very filling, so I was always ready to have it. When I could, I blended it with strawberries or blueberries with ice and water. Also cinnamon is a great addition to the vanilla fresh shake. During lunch you also get a vegetable and healthy fat. I usually have carrots or red peppers with hummus.
At least an hour later and it’s snack time. Another vegetable and healthy fat. I’m so boring it would be a different vegetable and hummus. You could also choose a raw juice in place of the healthy fat, but that’s not for me.
An hour later is another optional green or herbal tea. You can use some stevia in this tea, but I have given up sweeteners, so none for me.
So for most of this I was at work, except for day 1 because I had off that Monday. It’s not much to prep or pack, so it’s actually kind of easy. Especially if you have the gallon of distilled water to mix your shakes with.
DINNER! It could be hard to avoid snacking when you get home from work to make the dinner and I tried to stretch the time some so I wouldn’t get hungry before bed. For dinner it’s the Vanilla Fresh shake (no fruit this time) and a dinner choice from the recipe list. You can make all three dinners ahead of time if you’re doing all cold things. Also, there is the optional choice for a cup of organic vegetable broth, which I had 2 of the 3 nights. My dinner meal choices were the Spinach Salad, the Cucumber and Tomato salad and the Moroccan Carrot Salad.
The last intake of the day is an optional evening tea. I had this at least one of the nights!
It’s probably wise not to weigh yourself everyday, but I did. Lol. The first day I was not down any pounds – but that’s normal really. Plus, I had been drinking all that water. The second day I was down about two pounds and on the third day about 4.5 pounds and about 2 inches. A full inch of the waist and I could definitely feel it my pants! I will say that during the three days, I did have a few m&m’s and 2 Hershey kisses 😉
I was super careful on day 4 to stick to my meal plan and not overindulge. I weighed in on the 5th day and was still down the 4.5 pounds and feeling great.
I thought ahead to the big get together we have on the 4th of July and how we will be leaving for a family vacation on the Saturday after. Perfect timing to squeeze in a refresh after the 4th before the vacation!
